a stack of records

The DIY scene is thriving at the moment. There are so many great bands releasing DIY music, whether it be punk, indie, emo, pop, hardcore or anything else that embraces the DIY ethos. Nothing Sounds Good Record Club was born out the desire to get these records into as many people’s hands as possible.

The plan is to send out one record per month, along with some little DIY goodies, to connect the people who love this music with the labels and artists who produce it. The two of us will curate a selection each month and send it directly to your door, giving you a primer on the artist, and why we think it deserves to belong in your collection.

With so much great music out there, it’s time to make sure it reaches to ears of those who need to hear it.

Nothing Sounds Good Record Club was started by Luke Murphy (they/them) and Paul Wade (he/him), two huge music lovers who have spent the last 20 years on all sides of the DIY music scene. After spending the last ten years in queer indie-punk band Brutalligators, as well as being part of the promotion collective How To Make Friends Presents, they thought it was time to try and get their love for DIY to an even bigger audience.

Luke spends their days as a designer in startups, and all their free time doing something related to music. They co-founded the vinyl subscription startup Wax & Stamp, before selling it in 2020. They host the How To Make Friends podcast, talking to DIY bands around the world, after running the Rhythm & Brews podcasts since 2012. They co-founded Early Doors Disco and Darkest Timeline Disco indie clubnights, and have promoted gigs as Early Doors Disco, Oh Cayman and HTMF Presents over the last 15 years around the UK.

Paul is a filmmaker, and has worked in independent record shops for the last ten years. They have directed and produced music videos for the likes of CC Smugglers, Prawn, Bastardgeist, and The Puppini Sisters. As a promoter, they’ve promoted shows around the UK for folks including Delaire the Liar, Lakes, Slash Fiction and Fightmilk among many others.
